Terms of Service
Last updated: October 5, 2026
1. Scope
These terms apply to the Lucerna web reader, desktop application and related services. Please read these terms and the Privacy Policy before using the service. Contact: info@lucernaread.com.
2. The service
Lucerna provides ebook reading, library management, synchronization and language assistance. Books are parsed on your device; the server only stores and synchronizes uploaded reading materials. When you request word lookup, translation or sentence analysis, selected text and necessary context may be sent to the relevant service, as described in the feature settings and Privacy Policy. Available features may vary by version and device.
3. Accounts and devices
Provide accurate registration information, protect your sign-in credentials and contact us if you discover unauthorized access. You must have the legal capacity to accept these terms or obtain guardian consent where required.
4. Your content and rights
You retain the rights you lawfully hold in uploaded materials, notes and other content. Uploading does not transfer those rights to Lucerna or change the original rights holders’ rights. You permit us to store and copy relevant materials only as necessary to provide the storage, synchronization and related functions you request. This permission does not authorize us to separately publish, sell or publicly distribute your content.
5. Uploading and acceptable use
Ensure that uploading and using materials has the necessary rights, permission or other lawful basis. We provide technical tools; receiving or storing materials does not confirm their source, ownership or permitted uses. Do not infringe others’ rights, distribute materials without authorization, damage systems, circumvent access controls or interfere with other users. We will review rights complaints and may request further information, restrict access or remove relevant materials. Send complaints identifying the work, relevant materials, basis of rights and contact details to info@lucernaread.com. Where legally permitted and practicable, we will notify affected users and provide a way to respond.
6. Language assistance and third parties
Translations, definitions, grammar analyses and speech output may be inaccurate. Check them against the original text; they do not replace professional advice. Models, API accounts and other third-party services you configure are subject to their own terms and may charge separately. You are responsible for related credentials and charges. We do not guarantee the continued availability of external services.
7. Availability and your data
We maintain the service, but updates, faults, security incidents or other circumstances may interrupt availability. Keep copies of important original files and exportable materials. Where reasonably practicable, we will give advance notice of changes materially affecting expressly promised features or entitlements. Current free features are not a promise that the service will remain unchanged forever.
8. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the service and request deletion of your account and related data through available functions or our contact email. Uninstalling does not automatically delete server-side data. Serious or repeated violations, security risks or legal requirements may lead to proportionate restrictions. Where legally permitted and practicable, we will explain the reason and provide a contact channel. Urgent security measures may take effect first. Retention and deletion follow the Privacy Policy and applicable law.
9. Liability and statutory rights
To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not responsible for losses caused by unauthorized uploading or use of content, incorrect configuration of third-party services, or reliance on unchecked language assistance results. These terms do not exclude liability we must bear under applicable law or limit non-waivable consumer or other statutory rights.
10. Changes and disputes
We will date and publish updates, prominently explain material changes and obtain consent where required by applicable law. If you disagree with a change, contact us or stop using the service. Please first contact info@lucernaread.com to seek resolution of a dispute. Your statutory complaint, remedy and dispute-resolution rights remain unaffected.
