What you read can reveal your interests and thoughts. This policy explains the information involved in Lucerna’s reading and language assistance functions and the choices available to you.
1. Your content and rights
You retain the rights you lawfully hold in uploaded materials, notes and other content. Uploading, storing or using Lucerna does not transfer those rights to us or change the rights of the original rights holders. We handle relevant content only to provide the reading, storage, synchronization and language assistance you request, maintain security and comply with applicable law.
2. Rights to uploaded materials
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary rights, permission or other lawful basis to upload and use materials through the service. Lucerna provides reading and library management tools. Receiving or storing a file does not confirm its source, ownership or permitted uses. If we receive a rights complaint or are required to act by law, we will review the circumstances and take necessary measures under applicable law, which may include requesting further information, restricting access or removing content. 3. Scope and contact
This policy applies to the Lucerna web and desktop reading applications and the LucernaRead website. Lucerna is operated by an independent developer. Send privacy questions and requests for access, correction or deletion to info@lucernaread.com.
4. Information we handle
Account and sign-in information includes your email address, account identifier, authentication information and session records. When you upload books or use synchronization, the server stores book content, book details, covers, reading positions, bookmarks, notes, vocabulary and reading preferences for storage and synchronization only. It does not parse uploaded book content or determine its copyright status. Your device may also store reading caches and preferences.
5. Word lookup, translation and sentence analysis
When you use word lookup, translation or sentence analysis, selected words or sentences, necessary context, language and request parameters are sent to the relevant service for processing. These functions require a network connection. Please do not include sensitive personal information unrelated to the requested function.
6. Usage statistics, logs and local storage
When usage statistics are enabled, we record visits and feature-use events. Operating the service may also generate IP addresses, browser or device information, request times, error logs and security logs. Cookies, browser storage and desktop caches support sign-in, settings and reading. You can manage cookies and local storage through your browser settings; restricting necessary storage may affect sign-in or reading functions.
7. How information is used
Information supports reading, synchronization, language assistance and account functions, helps us respond to support requests, maintain security, troubleshoot problems and improve the product. Before using information for a new purpose outside your reasonable expectations, we will explain the change and obtain consent where applicable law requires it.
8. Service providers and disclosures
Hosting, authentication, file storage, language processing and usage statistics may be provided by service providers. Where a provider handles information, we provide only what is needed for the relevant function. Necessary disclosures may also occur to comply with law, protect service security or handle a change in the operator of the service.
9. Storage locations and retention
Servers and your device store the data needed for their respective functions. Infrastructure may process information outside your country or region. Retention depends on service provision, security needs and applicable law. You may contact us to request deletion; live data, logs and backups may follow different deletion cycles.
10. Your choices and rights
You can manage books, notes and reading materials through available application functions. You can also email us to request access, correction or deletion of personal information, or withdraw consent for optional processing. We may reasonably verify your identity. Uninstalling the application or clearing browser storage affects local data only and does not delete your server-side account or data. This policy does not limit other rights or complaint options available under applicable law.
11. Security and children
We use technical and organizational measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, but no system can be guaranteed completely secure. Please contact us if you believe a child’s personal information has been collected without appropriate authorization.
12. External content and policy changes
External videos, links and other embedded content may allow third parties to receive device and access information directly and are subject to their own privacy policies. We will date policy updates, prominently explain significant changes to processing purposes or third-party disclosures, and obtain consent where required by applicable law.
